I read the first two chapters of Dracula and came up with three thought-provoking thoughts. The first is what I call “the revelation of the poisonous mushroom — the beautiful illusion”, the second I call it “the undetectable virus”, and the third I call it “the door that can never be opened”.

These two chapters describe how Harker got to the castle and what happened when he first moved into the castle. The words I noticed were appear in the last paragraph of chapter two. The book describes, “the castle is a veritable price, and I am the prince”(p41). this reminds me not only of the virus itself, but also of the gorgeous but poisonous poisonous mushroom. It can be seen that Harker’s journey is full of “beautiful appearance”.

The scenery along the way is pleasant. However, Harker also finds some strange things in it. For example, wherever he goes, people draw crosses on their chest. In the beautiful and old castle, there are many locked doors, which Harker found, but didn’t pay much attention at first. Another example is that Mr. Dracula has never had dinner with him. Mr. Dracula likes the cold environment, which is foreshadowing, but Harker didn’t pay attention to it at first.Just like a virus, it is not easy to detect when it first invades, but when it really breaks out, there are traces everywhere.

At the end of chapter two, Harker finally realizes the danger. When he can’t see Mr. Dracula in the mirror, he finally discovers these terrible things. I think of the locked door in the castle. It’s not just that there are hidden secrets in it, it’s also a hint that Harker has been imprisoned like a prisoner. It is more suggestive of the reason why the whole city is so timid. It is not so much a city as a prison imprisoned by the plague.
